Key findings
- Mega Bundle value inversion: the Big Bundle (€9.99) is worth ×1.28 its price, the Mega Bundle (€22.99) only ×1.11. The player pays 130% more for 100% more content.
- Flat coin step: Pack 2 gives 556.2 coins/€, Pack 3 gives 555.9. The same flaw is in Pixel Flow.
- Giant Bundle is dominated: for €10 more (+11%), Legendary gives 30% more coins and boosters, so Giant has no rational buyer.
- The starter pack is the weakest bundle: the €5.99 Special Offer is worth ×1.10, the lowest ratio in the lineup.
- No free daily gift and no rotating deals: nothing brings a player back to the shop each day.
About the Game and Analysis Context
Yarn Loop is a hybrid-casual puzzle game where players untangle colorful yarn knots to complete woven pictures. Mechanically it is heavily inspired by Pixel Flow from Loom Games — the same coin currency, the same three booster types, and an identical progressive shop expansion pattern. The core difference is the visual theme: where Pixel Flow uses pixel art, Yarn Loop wraps the same economy in a cozy, yarn-crafting aesthetic.
The shop is implemented as a single vertical feed — the correct layout choice for an assortment of this size (→ Game Shops: Ultimate Guidelines, ch. 1.2 Layout). The shop expands progressively: coin packs first, bundles after booster unlock, No Ads after forced ads begin. In the full shop state, bundles appear above coin packs — the right prioritisation. There is no VIP/subscription, which is appropriate for this genre and assortment size.
1. Shop Structure

1.1 Section Order Assessment
Placing bundles above coin packs is the correct prioritisation — bundles carry higher ARPU potential and should receive more visual attention than raw currency. Coin packs are utilitarian and belong at the bottom of the feed (→ Game Shops: Ultimate Guidelines, ch. 1.2 Layout).
1.2 Progressive Assortment Expansion
Like Pixel Flow, Yarn Loop uses a progressive assortment expansion model. The shop grows alongside the player's progression:
- Early state: Coin packs only. Correct — boosters are not yet accessible so bundle offers would be meaningless.
- After booster unlock: Bundles and the starter Special Offer appear above coin packs.
- After forced ads begin: The No Ads offer surfaces and is inserted at position 2 in the feed, directly below the starter pack.
This is a well-timed reveal sequence — each addition appears when the player has the context to understand its value (→ Game Shops: Ultimate Guidelines, ch. 1.2 Layout). The known risk: without explicit notifications, players who never re-open the shop will miss new additions entirely.
1.3 What's Missing
- Free Daily Gift — no free reward section. Players have zero reason to open the shop daily. The visit → impulse purchase funnel is completely absent (→ Game Shops: Ultimate Guidelines, ch. 1.3 Sections).
- Flash Deals / Daily Deals — no rotating time-limited offers beyond the one-time starter pack.
- Visual tier differentiation for bundles — all five bundles share the same orange/purple color scheme with no escalating visual signal.
2. Coin Packs
2.1 Data
| Pack | Coins | Price (€) | Coins/€ | Value Index (base = 1.00) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pack 1 | 1,000 | 1.99 | 502.5 | 1.00 (base) |
| Pack 2 | 5,000 | 8.99 | 556.2 | 1.11 |
| Pack 3 | 10,000 | 17.99 | 555.9 | 1.11 ⚠ |
| Pack 4 | 25,000 | 34.99 | 714.5 | 1.42 |
| Pack 5 | 50,000 | 59.99 | 833.5 | 1.66 |
| Pack 6 | 100,000 | 99.99 | 1000.1 | 1.99 |
Note: The coin pack assortment in Yarn Loop is identical to Pixel Flow — same amounts, same prices.
2.2 Bonus Progression
2.3 What's Done Well: Monotonic Progression (Mostly)
The value ladder is unbroken across five of six transitions. Each tier from Pack 4 onward delivers meaningfully more coins per euro. The top tier (100,000 coins for €99.99) delivers exactly double the value of the base pack — a clean, credible signal for high spenders (→ Game Shops: Ultimate Guidelines, ch. 10 Pricing Psychology & Anchoring).
2.4 Problem: Pack 2 and Pack 3 Are Effectively Identical
Pack 2 (€8.99) delivers 556.2 coins/€. Pack 3 (€17.99) delivers 555.9 coins/€. The difference is 0.3 coins per euro — 0.05%. From any player's perspective, these packs offer the same value.
| Comparison | Coins | Cost | Coins/€ |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pack 2 | 5,000 | €8.99 | 556.2 |
| Pack 3 | 10,000 | €17.99 | 555.9 |
| Difference | +5,000 | +€9.00 | −0.3 |
This is a broken value step. A player with €18 to spend has no rational incentive to choose Pack 3 over two purchases of Pack 2. This defect was inherited directly from Pixel Flow — Spyke has copy-pasted the flaw along with the design.
Fix: Raise Pack 3 to 11,000–11,500 coins (≈611–639 coins/€, Value Index ≈ 1.22–1.27). This closes the flat zone and creates a clear progression step.
3. Bundles
3.1 Bundle Contents
| Bundle | Price (€) | Coins | Add Bobbin | Shuffle | Hand | Infinite Lives |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Special Offer! | 5.99 | 2,500 | ×1 | ×1 | — | 15 min |
| Big Bundle | 9.99 | 5,000 | ×1 | ×1 | ×1 | 15 min |
| Mega Bundle | 22.99 | 10,000 | ×2 | ×2 | ×2 | 30 min |
| Super Bundle | 44.99 | 25,000 | ×4 | ×4 | ×4 | 1h |
| Giant Bundle | 89.99 | 50,000 | ×10 | ×10 | ×10 | 2h |
| Legendary Bundle | 99.99 | 65,000 | ×13 | ×13 | ×13 | 4h |
"Best Value" badge on Legendary Bundle.
3.2 Scaling Between Tiers
| Transition | Price × | Coins × | Boosters × | Lives × |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Big → Mega | ×2.30 | ×2.00 | ×2.00 | ×2.00 |
| Mega → Super | ×1.96 | ×2.50 | ×2.00 | ×2.00 |
| Super → Giant | ×2.00 | ×2.00 | ×2.50 | ×2.00 |
| Giant → Legendary | ×1.11 | ×1.30 | ×1.30 | ×2.00 |
The Giant → Legendary transition is the critical problem. The price increases by only 11% (€89.99 → €99.99), yet content increases by 30% in coins and boosters. This is unusual — normally the top tier commands a premium price for premium content. Here the near-identical prices between Giant and Legendary make the Legendary bundle an obvious choice over Giant, which effectively destroys the Giant Bundle's reason to exist.
3.3 Coin vs. Booster Value Split
In-game, boosters can be purchased directly during a level for coins: Add Bobbin = 300 coins, Shuffle = 500 coins, Hand = 600 coins. One complete booster set (1+1+1) costs 1,400 coins.
This gives a concrete in-game exchange rate that can be used to measure the real content value of every bundle. Using Pack 1 as the coin-to-euro baseline (502.5 coins/€):
| Booster | In-game cost (coins) | In-game cost (€ equiv.) |
|---|---|---|
| Add Bobbin | 300 | €0.60 |
| Shuffle | 500 | €1.00 |
| Hand | 600 | €1.19 |
| Full set (×1 each) | 1,400 | €2.79 |
Now we can calculate the true total content value of each bundle — coins at Pack 1 rate + boosters at in-game coin price + lives (not assigned a coin value, treated as a free bonus):
| Bundle | Price (€) | Coins (€ equiv.) | Booster Value (€ equiv.) | Total Content Value (€) | Value Multiplier |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Special Offer! | 5.99 | 2,500 → €4.97 | AB×1 + SH×1 = €1.60 | €6.57 | ×1.10 |
| Big Bundle | 9.99 | 5,000 → €9.95 | AB×1 + SH×1 + H×1 = €2.79 | €12.74 | ×1.28 |
| Mega Bundle | 22.99 | 10,000 → €19.90 | (AB+SH+H)×2 = €5.57 | €25.47 | ×1.11 |
| Super Bundle | 44.99 | 25,000 → €49.75 | (AB+SH+H)×4 = €11.15 | €60.90 | ×1.35 |
| Giant Bundle | 89.99 | 50,000 → €99.50 | (AB+SH+H)×10 = €27.86 | €127.36 | ×1.42 |
| Legendary Bundle | 99.99 | 65,000 → €129.35 | (AB+SH+H)×13 = €36.22 | €165.57 | ×1.66 |
Booster values calculated at Pack 1 coin rate (502.5 coins/€). Lives treated as free bonus — no coin equivalent exists in-game.
Key findings from this breakdown:
1. The "Best Value" badge on Legendary Bundle is well-earned. At ×1.66 content-to-price multiplier, it genuinely leads the range. The badge reflects real math, not marketing fiction.
2. The Mega Bundle has the weakest multiplier (×1.11). A player comparing the Big Bundle (×1.28) to the Mega Bundle (×1.11) gets less value ratio by spending more. This is a value ladder defect at the bundle level — not just the coin pack level.
3. The Giant and Legendary bundles are where the economy is most generous. From €44.99 upward, every bundle delivers content worth significantly more than its price at in-game rates. Whales are genuinely rewarded.
4. The Special Offer! sits at ×1.10 — the weakest among bundles. For a starter pack, this is a missed opportunity. The entry offer should feel like the best deal in the shop at its price point to maximize first-purchase conversion.
3.4 The Mega Bundle Value Inversion
This warrants explicit focus. The progression from Big Bundle to Mega Bundle is:
| Big Bundle | Mega Bundle | Change | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price | €9.99 | €22.99 | +€13.00 (+130%) |
| Content value | €12.74 | €25.47 | +€12.73 |
| Value multiplier | ×1.28 | ×1.11 | ↓ drops |
The player pays 130% more but receives only 100% more content value. The ratio decreases. A player who consciously compares these two bundles will feel the Mega Bundle is the worse deal — which is the opposite of what a well-designed value ladder should communicate (→ Game Shops: Ultimate Guidelines, ch. 3 Bundle Design).
Fix: Increase Mega Bundle coins to 12,500 (keeping booster count at ×2) or add ×3 of each booster. Either change brings the multiplier to approximately ×1.30–1.35, restoring the ascending value perception.
3.5 Booster Design Pattern
All bundles follow a symmetric booster distribution — equal quantities of Add Bobbin, Shuffle, and Hand at every tier. There is no differentiation reflecting their different in-game coin costs (Hand is 2× the cost of Add Bobbin, yet they are always bundled in equal amounts).
A more economically coherent structure would mirror the in-game price hierarchy: give slightly more Add Bobbins than Shuffles, and more Shuffles than Hands per tier. This makes the bundle feel intentionally designed around the game's economy rather than arbitrarily assembled.
4. Special Offers
4.1 Special Offer! (Starter Pack) — €5.99
Contents: 2,500 coins + Add Bobbin ×1 + Shuffle ×1 + Infinite Lives 15 min
Conditions: Timed; appears early in the player journey alongside bundle unlock. Positioned at the top of the feed.
Value assessment:
Using in-game booster prices and Pack 1 coin rate (502.5 coins/€), the total content value is:
- 2,500 coins → €4.97
- Add Bobbin ×1 → €0.60
- Shuffle ×1 → €1.00
- Lives 15m → bonus (no coin equivalent)
- Total: €6.57 for €5.99 → ×1.10 value multiplier
A ×1.10 multiplier is the weakest value ratio in the entire bundle lineup. For a starter pack — the offer designed to convert the player's very first purchase — this is a problem. The entry point should feel like the most compelling deal at its price tier, not the least.
Comparison to Big Bundle (€9.99):
| Offer | Price | Coins | Add Bobbin | Shuffle | Hand | Lives | Value multiplier |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Special Offer | €5.99 | 2,500 | ×1 | ×1 | — | 15m | ×1.10 |
| Big Bundle | €9.99 | 5,000 | ×1 | ×1 | ×1 | 15m | ×1.28 |
The Big Bundle offers a higher value ratio at only 1.67× the price. A player who pauses to compare will rationally skip the starter pack and go straight to Big Bundle — or simply wait and buy nothing.
Position: Top of feed — correct. Being the first offer seen maximizes exposure (→ Game Shops: Ultimate Guidelines, ch. 5 Starter Packs).
Missing: No timer visible in the screenshots, no "One Time Only" label, no stated discount percentage. The absence of urgency mechanics weakens the conversion pressure.
4.2 No Ads Offer — €8.99
Contents: Remove all forced/intrusive ads permanently. Rewarded ads remain available.
Trigger: Appears after the player watches their first ad. Inserted at position 2 in the feed (below the starter pack, above coin packs). The pop-up presentation also appears on trigger.
Price assessment: €8.99 sits at the top of the hybrid-casual No Ads range ($2.99–$9.99). Given that this is a one-time permanent purchase, this is defensible — but it leaves no room for a "premium" ad removal bundle with bonus content.
What's done well:
- Clear language: "Remove forced ads forever" / "Keep the rewarded ads" — removes any ambiguity about what the player is giving up.
- The distinction between forced and rewarded ads is explicitly communicated in the purchase popup, which protects the studio's rewarded ad revenue stream.
- Labeled "Popular" in the shop feed — reasonable social proof signal.
What's missing:
- No bonus coins or boosters included. At €8.99, adding even 1,000–2,000 coins would meaningfully increase perceived value and conversion rate without materially changing unit economics.
5. VIP / Premium Status
There is no VIP or subscription offering in Yarn Loop. Given the game's hybrid-casual positioning and the relatively small assortment, this is an appropriate scope decision. Adding a subscription without a robust daily content loop to support it would feel hollow (→ Game Shops: Ultimate Guidelines, ch. 7 VIP and Subscriptions).
6. Overall Design and UX Assessment
6.1 Visual Hierarchy
The shop uses two visual languages:
- Starter pack and No Ads offer: Orange accent frames — urgency/utility tier. Visually distinct.
- Coin packs: Clean white cards — neutral, informational.
- Bundles (Big → Legendary): All share a purple banner at the bottom. No escalating color progression (bronze → silver → gold → diamond or equivalent).
The result: a player scrolling through five bundle tiers sees identical visual weight at every step. The "Best Value" badge on the Legendary Bundle is the only visual differentiator across the entire bundle section.
6.2 What's Done Well
- Progressive shop expansion — the shop reveals itself in alignment with player progression. This reduces early cognitive load and ensures offers appear when they are contextually relevant.
- No Ads messaging — the forced/rewarded ads distinction is stated explicitly. This is better than the industry norm of vague "remove ads" language.
- Coin pack value ladder — unbroken from Pack 1 through Pack 6 (one near-flat step aside), which is more than many competitors achieve.
- "Best Value" badge placement — correctly placed on the highest-tier bundle with genuinely favorable math.
- No Ads trigger timing — surfaces after the first ad impression, exactly when frustration is highest.
6.3 Problems
| Problem | Severity | Details |
|---|---|---|
| No free daily reward section | High High | Zero reason for daily shop visits; visit → purchase funnel completely absent |
| Pack 2 / Pack 3 value ladder flat zone | High High | Pack 3 (€17.99) offers 555.9 coins/€ vs Pack 2's 556.2 — effectively identical value; destroys Pack 3's purchase rationale |
| Giant vs Legendary: pricing overlap | High High | €89.99 Giant Bundle is dominated by €99.99 Legendary Bundle (+30% content for +11% price); Giant Bundle has no rational buyer |
| Mega Bundle value inversion | High High | Big Bundle delivers ×1.28 content-to-price multiplier; Mega Bundle drops to ×1.11 — value ratio decreases when spending more |
| Starter pack has weakest value ratio (×1.10) | Medium Medium | The first-purchase offer should have the most compelling value ratio; instead it has the lowest in the lineup |
| No urgency mechanics on starter pack | Medium Medium | No countdown timer, no "One Time Only" label — the offer lacks conversion pressure |
| No Ads offer has no bonus content | Medium Medium | At €8.99 (top of genre range), including coins or boosters would lift perceived value and conversion |
| No bundle visual tier differentiation | Medium Medium | All five bundles share the same purple/orange scheme; no escalating visual signal of premium-ness |
| No flash deals or daily rotation | Medium Medium | Shop is entirely static outside of the starter offer; no recurring visit incentive mechanism |
| Symmetric booster distribution ignores in-game price hierarchy | Low Low | Hand costs 2× more than Add Bobbin in-game; bundling them in equal quantities misses a natural value-signaling opportunity |
| Missing Hand booster in starter pack | Low Low | Only 2 of 3 booster types included; asymmetric vs. all other bundles |
7. Recommendations
7.1 Fix the Coin Pack Flat Zone (Pack 3)
What's wrong: Pack 3 (€17.99 / 10,000 coins) delivers 555.9 coins/€ — virtually identical to Pack 2's 556.2. A player with €18 gains nothing by buying Pack 3 vs two Pack 2 purchases.
Why it matters: Flat value steps make the more expensive pack feel like a trap. Players who notice this lose trust in the shop's pricing logic.
Fix: Raise Pack 3 to 11,500 coins (641 coins/€, Value Index 1.28). This creates a clear gap between Pack 2 and Pack 3 and rewards the player who commits to the larger purchase. This defect is inherited directly from Pixel Flow — both games need the same fix.
7.2 Fix the Mega Bundle Value Inversion
What's wrong: The Big Bundle (€9.99) delivers a ×1.28 content-to-price multiplier. The Mega Bundle (€22.99) drops to ×1.11. A player who consciously compares them finds the Mega Bundle to be the worse deal — despite costing 130% more.
Why it matters: Bundle value multipliers must increase with price tier, not decrease. A falling ratio at any step signals either a pricing error or intentional deception. Either way, players who notice will distrust the rest of the shop.
Fix: Raise the Mega Bundle to 12,500 coins (keeping ×2 of each booster). This brings its content value to ≈€27.36 against €22.99 — a ×1.19 multiplier, meaningfully better than Big Bundle's ×1.10 and starting a proper ascending curve.
Alternatively, increase to ×3 of each booster while keeping 10,000 coins. Content value becomes ≈€27.27 (×1.19). Both options restore the ascending value perception.
7.3 Fix the Giant / Legendary Bundle Overlap
What's wrong: The Legendary Bundle (€99.99) delivers 65,000 coins + ×13 of each booster + 4h lives. The Giant Bundle (€89.99) delivers 50,000 coins + ×10 of each booster + 2h lives. For €10 more (+11%), the player gets 30% more of everything.
Why it matters: A rational buyer will always choose Legendary over Giant. This makes Giant an effectively dead SKU — it occupies screen space without converting.
Fix options:
- Option A: Raise the Giant Bundle's contents to justify its price tier: increase to 55,000 coins + ×12 of each booster to create a meaningful overlap zone rather than a dominated outcome.
- Option B: Reframe Giant as the value tier and increase Legendary to €109.99–€119.99, restoring price separation.
- Option C: Merge or remove Giant Bundle and rebalance the five-tier ladder to four tiers with better step progression.
7.4 Strengthen the Starter Pack Value Proposition
What's wrong: At ×1.10 content-to-price, the Special Offer has the weakest value multiplier of any bundle. The Big Bundle immediately above it offers ×1.28. A first-time buyer who compares the two has no incentive to choose the starter pack.
Why it matters: The starter pack's job is to convert the player's first euro. It needs to feel like the best deal at its tier — not a consolation prize for players who can't afford the Big Bundle.
Fix: Add a Hand booster to the starter pack contents (completing the full set) and increase coins to 3,000. Content value rises to ≈€8.76 against €5.99 — a ×1.46 multiplier. The offer now leads its price tier rather than trailing it.
7.5 Add a Free Daily Gift Section
What's wrong: The shop has no free reward mechanism. There is no reason for a non-spending player to open the shop more than once.
Why it matters: Daily shop visits are the primary behavioral funnel for spontaneous purchases. Without them, the shop is only seen when a player runs out of resources mid-session — a high-friction, low-conversion moment.
Fix: Add a small free daily reward at the top of the shop feed: 100–200 coins or a single Add Bobbin (300 coins in-game value — the lowest-cost booster, keeping the giveaway cost modest), redeemable once per 24 hours. The cost is negligible; the behavioral impact on visit frequency is significant (→ Game Shops: Ultimate Guidelines, ch. 1.3 Sections).
7.6 Add Urgency Mechanics to the Starter Pack
What's wrong: The Special Offer has no countdown timer, no "one time only" label, and no stated discount. It relies on content value alone to convert.
Fix: Add a visible 72-hour countdown timer. Label it "One Time Only." Consider adding a "Save X%" claim based on equivalent raw coin pack value. These are standard first-purchase conversion mechanics and require no content changes.
7.7 Add Bonus Content to the No Ads Offer
What's wrong: At €8.99, the No Ads offer is priced at the top of the genre range with no bonus content.
Fix: Bundle in 2,000–3,000 coins alongside the ad removal. This lifts the perceived value, addresses the "is it worth it?" hesitation, and provides a tangible immediate reward on top of the long-term benefit.
Conclusion
Yarn Loop's shop is a functional but underperforming monetisation setup. The progressive assortment expansion and clear No Ads messaging are genuine strengths worth keeping. The critical problems are structural: a value inversion between the Big and Mega bundles actively undermines mid-tier conversion, the Giant Bundle is economically dominated by the Legendary Bundle and will rarely sell, and the coin pack flat zone at Pack 2/Pack 3 has been inherited unchanged from Pixel Flow. The single most important fix is the Mega Bundle — restoring an ascending value curve is the change most likely to move conversion numbers in the next update.
